X-SESSION
In this highly interactive session, we will approach the written text as a map for the audiobook narrator, and we need GPS (Great Prep Skills) to arrive at our storytelling destination without losing the listener along the way. What are the elements of a story, and how can we use that understanding to inform our approach? What are some of the conventions in genre fiction (romance, mystery, a hero’s journey) and how can those help us to tell those stories more effectively? Finally, we will look at the challenges of translating the written text’s visual elements into clearly understandable spoken word performance, differentiating narrative, dialogue, italics, text messages and other elements of contemporary fiction.
Takeaway 1 - Narrators will connect their understanding of dramatic structure to their ability to prep and perform an audiobook.
Takeaway 2 - Narrators will learn how the conventions of genre fiction can help them prep romance and mystery projects.
Takeaway 3 - Narrators will learn performance strategies for translating different types of text into spoken word performance.
